Does Buggspray really work?

Biting GNATS, Buffalo Gnats, Black Flies, or No-see-ums!

Whatever you want to call them, they are a menace. They won't bite when confined in a cage, like mosquitoes, so we had to do a field test to demonstrate what our customers have been raving about for years - our secret vanilla fragrance blend and other ingredients really works to repel these buggers. I'm not a videographer so bear with the attempt to download video from my camcorder and put it on the site. This is the same video from the home page at higher resolution. To set the stage, this was shot on June 8, 2002 at Caribou Lake about 5 miles north of Lutsen, Minnesota, 10 miles south of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and 30 miles from the Canadian border. The bugs were too thick for my wife and 4 month old boy so I used a tripod set up in the parking lot of the public lake access. Keep in mind this is DEET-free Buggins (Original Buggspray Vanilla Scent with 25% DEET will work better and last longer).

There are several dozen black flies swarming and biting at the rate of 25 bites per minute. (Note: The EPA recommends 5 bites or probes in 5 minutes (1 bite/min) as a minimum test for efficacy.) I was really getting chomped on while setting everything up and shot this in one take, obviously.
